Who is still hiring in FAANG+?
Let’s look at the data…
META
Zuckerberg was serious about efficiency and Meta has reduced hiring from the massive levels in 2021/22 and kept it that way on top of continued layoffs.
Even after such a steep decline in hiring, there are still many jobs open at Meta:
Meta is getting tougher on performance reviews and especially on PMs.
It also looks like Product Management is getting hit harder at Meta layoffs than Engineering.
APPLE
Apple spiked hiring in January to levels higher than we saw in early 2022.
There was a spike in departures from Apple in August, but Apple did not have the same level of layoffs as Google, Amazon, or Meta. They are enforcing return to office.
Once we unlock real-time data for January, we can see how much of that hiring spike is from tech functions, but the number of openings suggests a healthy hiring rate.
AMAZON
We’re seeing conflicting data from Amazon hiring, but they seemed to have picked up overall hiring through the holidays and January, which tends to be the peak hiring.
Amazon had recent layoffs and continues the PIP culture (managing out the lowest performing employees on an ongoing basis).
NETFLIX
Netflix really turned off the hiring taps through January, but job posts are increasing and their business is reportedly doing well, so maybe there will be a turnaround.
GOOGLE
Google hiring remains low among layoffs that will continue throughout the year.
Engineering hiring is stable at +2% the past 3 months, but Product Management hiring is down -14%.
MICROSOFT
Microsoft started picking up hiring in Q3 2023, but slowed back down recently along with layoffs.
Engineering hiring is up +104% and PM hiring +44% in the last 3 months.
UBER
Uber overall hiring really picked up through the past 6 months, but Engineering isn’t the majority of that hiring.

LINKEDIN
LinkedIn decreased hiring significantly and laid off staff last year, but job postings have picked back up with Product, Design, and Engineering roles being posted.
AIRBNB
Airbnb continues has picked up its hiring pace the past 6 months.
OPENAI
OpenAI and other AI startups continue their hockeystick hiring growth through January 2024.
